Sri. B. Pradeep, formerly Deputy Inspector General of Prisons and Correctional Services (southzone) and Director of SICA, has 31 years of exemplary service. Trained at APCA in 1989, he has undergone short-term courses at prestigious institutions such as LNJNN Institute of Criminology and Forensic Service, New Delhi; Sardar Vallabhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad; Dr. Ram Monohar Lohia National Law University, Lucknow; Daulat Rao Jadhav Jail Officers Training College, Yerwada, Pune; and National Law School of India University, Bengaluru.
Sri. B. Pradeep played a pivotal role in initiating and executing various reformative and rehabilitative initiatives within Kerala prisons. He represented the delegation that visited Sri Lankan prisons in 2013 and orchestrated the friendly T20 cricket match between Kerala prisons and their Sri Lankan counterparts, held at the Sports Hub in Karyavattom, Thiruvananthapuram. Notably, the Kerala team comprised both officers and inmates, while the Sri Lanka team included officers of various ranks. As Director of SICA and D.I.G. of Prisons (South zone), he oversaw six passing out parades for assistant prison officers consecutively with the honor of the Chief Minister and Home Ministers graciously taking the salute.
Furthermore, he played a leading role in championing the establishment of food production units in Kerala prisons, benefiting the department and contributing to inmate rehabilitation efforts.
As Deputy Inspector General of Prisons and Correctional Services (South zone) and Director of SICA, he played a Pivotal role in elevating the training standards for Prison officers in Kerala. He was instrumental in facilitating a first time study visit of Assistant Prison officers to various Prisons across South Indian states to study the best practices in correctional Management.
Under his leadership musical instruments worth lakhs of rupees were sponsored for the inmates, fostering a more peaceful atmosphere within the prison through the calming influence of music. Gymnasium equipment was also provided to the Thiruvananthapuram and Thirussur Central Prisons, marking a historic development. Additionally an all Kerala best physique competition for prison officers was held at the SICA Auditorium in Thiruvananthapuram. With financial supports from the Prisons Headquarters a well–equipped Gymnasium was later established for the use of both officers and inmates at Central Prison, Thiruvananthapuram.
He was also an active member of the drafting committee for the Kerala Prison Act 2010 and the Prison Rules of 2014. Furthermore, he served as a member of the PSC interview Board responsible for selecting Assistant Superintendents of Kerala Prisons
His contribution has been recognized through several awards, including the President's Medal for Correctional Services(2012), the KLN Reddy Award for Best Prison Officer(2016), meritorious service awards, citations, good service entries, and cash awards. He also assumed the full additional charge of Inspector General of Prisons for a period. Re-employed as a Director, APCA, Vellore, w.e.f. the A.N. of February 8, 2024.
After retirement, he assumed responsibility for ‘Thanalidam’ Probation home in Kollam District, Kerala. This facility is a joint initiative between the Kerala Government social Justice department and Gandhi Bhavan, a well –known care home for men and women. The probation Home offers temporary shelter to prisoners who have no relatives or friends to care for them after their release from Prisons.
