Apart from the above mentioned regular courses, the Academy offers an array of special courses. Among them few courses are offered in collaboration with renowned national and international institutions and organizations.

Memoranda of Understanding (MoU)

In order to facilitate the collaborative training, the Academy signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with the following organizations:

Special Courses


Vertical Interaction Course

The principal objective of the Vertical Interaction Course is to bring together prison officers of various ranks and provide them an open forum to discuss various issue and problems relating to prisons. This course also helps them to bring out new ideas and acquire various skills and knowledge by way of interactions and debates led by experts. (Sponsored BPR&D).

Human Rights Course

Prison officers have a great responsibility in protecting the rights of prisoners. Hence special training programme on Human Rights Management is organized by the Academy. The specific objective of the course is to impart knowledge to the prison officers on major human rights instruments and their importance to institutions exclusively dealing with prisoners. (Sponsored BPR&D and NHRC).

Personality Development Course

The Academy organizes personality development courses at regular intervals. The course deliberates on various aspects of personality development including Interpersonal relations, Communication skills, Leadership styles & Skills, Stress management, Motivation, Group dynamics and team building, Conflicts management, Enhancing the power of mind & positive thinking etc. (Sponsored BPR&D).

Special Course on Welfare Duties

Welfare activities are integral for effective correctional administration. A 10 –day Special Course on Welfare Duties is being organized for serving prison officers. The course focuses on Welfare of Prisoners-legal and human rights frameworks, Duties and responsibilities of welfare officers, Identifying inmates’ needs, Mental health issues & addiction problems of prisoners etc.

Orientation Course on Correctional Social Work (In collaboration with TISS, Mumbai)

Social work methods are invariably applied in prison settings. Hence prison officers are expected to be aware of and capable to employ social work methods in their work. This programme in collaboration with Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai offers an orientation to prison officers on correctional social work theory and practice.

Change Management Course (In collaboration with VIT University, Vellore)

The Change management course is in collaboration with VIT University, Vellore for serving prison officers. The objective of this course is to enable the prison officers realize the need and importance of change in the Prisons and equip them to manage changes in correctional administration effectively.

Training of Trainers Course (In collaboration with PRAJA, India & PRI, UK)

The ‘Training of Trainers’ course is organized for senior level officers of prisons and correctional services from different states of the country in collaboration with the Penal Reform International, UK. As the academy is endeavoring to provide international exposure to the prison officers of the country, experts from UK participate as resource persons. The objective of the course is to sharpen the training skills and knowledge of the prison officers and generate a group of officers within department who could be the resource persons for further training programmes.

Gender Sensitization Course (In collaboration with RGNIYD, Sriperumpudur)

Gender Sensitization training Programme for prison officers is being organized by the academy in collaboration with gender Studies Division of the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Sriperumbudur. The course is specially focused on topics such as ‘Introduction to gender’, ‘Social Construction of gender’, ‘Gender and Society’, ‘Gender and violence’, ‘Gender and Human Rights’, ‘Gender and Media’ , ‘Representation of women in India’, etc.,

Counseling Skills Course (In collaboration with CCC, Vellore)

A short term training programme on ‘Counseling skills and techniques for prison officers’ is being organized for prison officers at Christian Counseling Centre, Vellore. The main objective of this course is to impart counseling techniques and psychological aspects of correction to prison officers to achieve better results in correctional administration.

Lifestyle Management Course (In collaboration with Auxilium College, Vellore)

Prison officers experience higher levels of occupational stress and workplace pressure. The stress impacts on their personal, familial and health conditions too. To help prison officers cope with their workplace stress and manage their lives in a better way, the Academy in collaboration with Auxilium College, Vellore offers this training programme on life style management.
